There is still more than a month left to enjoy the magic and beauty of the Marmolada in her winter vestiges, and it’s going to be a truly special end of season for the Queen of the Dolomites.
These last few days there has been abundant snowfall in this renowned Venetian ski resort, lending the scenery a fairy-tale atmosphere. Everything is white, both on the summits and in the valley. You can ski along immaculate slopes and marvel at the post-card views, but you can also enjoy excursions on snow shoes, simple walks through the forest or ice climbing in the spellbinding Serrai di Sottoguda, a 2.5 k long natural canyon unique in all the Dolomites, which connects Malga Ciapela to the hamlet of Sottoguda.
For cross country skiing fans, Malga Ciapela offers free parking near 7.5 km of tracks divided into 3 loops of varying difficulty. The loops are FISI certified for technical and free style. You can rent all the necessary equipment on-site.
The fantastic kids park (kinderheim) called Snow White’s Enchanted Cottage (La casetta incantata di Biancaneve) offers guaranteed fun for the whole family. There is an original itinerary called “the Fox is watching you” , where you can walk or snowshoe to find out about old time traditions and crafts: it’s about a 4km-long natural trail that winds almost entirely through the woods along the Pettorina torrent, with refreshment options available.
